Submission Preparation Checklist
Submission Guidelines
- Maximum word count for prose is 3,000 words. There is no word limit for poetry.
- An individual may submit up to 3 pieces of poetry, up to 2 pieces of prose, or a mix of both. Be aware that if more than one of your submissions are selected, then one will be chosen for the physical copy while another piece may be featured in the digital edition of the journal.
- Format:
- Use Times New Roman font in size 12 for your submission.
- Do not include your name anywhere in the submitted document in order to ensure anonymity
- Include the final word count on the right hand side of the first page of your document.
- Include the title of your work in the document
- Submit with word
- All works will be selected anonymously by the editors and the team of readers.
Eligibility
- All students, staff and alumni of UCC are invited to submit prose or poetry to Quarryman.
- All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they will be published in the journal.
- By submitting, you agree that your work is your own, has not been published previously, and does not use AI.

For Authors
For authors submitting entries, you are required to register with UCC’s online journal hosting program known as OJS. When you do this, you consent to the personal information you provide to be stored and processed by the platform and the journal editorial team. The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party as per the guidelines set out by the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2018. For Website Visitors
For website visitors, UCC’s online journal platform known as OJS anonymously logs data of visitors to the website. Anonymised data includes IP addresses, operating system and browser type. This data is used for system administration and website analytics, however this data is not in any way used to identify visitors personally and will not be used for any other purpose. If you wish to receive updates from Quarryman via email, you may register via the link at the top of the journal home page. To do so, you will be required to input your email address and name, by doing so you consent to the personal information you provide to be stored and processed by the platform in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2018. This information will be used to alert readers of announcements about Quarryman literary journal. Your information will not be used for any other purpose.
