Abstract

Based on, and written in response to, Veronica Johnson’s concept of “the cinematic academic”, coined in this inaugural issue of Irish Screen Studies journal, this piece considers what binds (unites and make proximate) the “precarious” and the “secure” academics who are working within screen studies on the island of Ireland today. It reflects on the aesthetic and strategic uses of working conditions within the university system as a way of imagining expressive forms shaped by intellectual labour.
