About the Journal
University College Cork has over 1000 doctoral students doing research in almost every field of academia. The Boolean is an on-line collection of short papers in which these students describe their area of research and some of their main findings and was published on an annual basis from 2010-2015.
During this time, The Boolean provided a platform for students to share their research with others within and outside the University besides the specialist readers who might learn of it through conventional academic publication routes.
Many of our students work on topics of interest to a wide range of stakeholders, including industry, employers, the general public, and policymakers. The journal provides a way for their research to become known. In addition, students who submit articles gain experience of communicating to a non-specialist audience, and become engaged and familiar with peer review.
This and subsequent editions want to carry this baton further. We will publish ongoing UCC-based research in formats to these stakeholders so together researcher and practitioners can engage.
